A few years ago, I was visiting some friends in Cincinnati. They took me to a bar called Wise Guy Lounge. I loved the concept of this place because when you walk in, it’s actually a pizza place, which had fantastic pizza by the way, but as you walk up the stairs, there’s a full bar that’s somewhat hidden.

I ordered a drink and struck up a conversation with the bartender. “I wish we had one of these in Indy!” I said. The bartender just looked at me and kindly let me know there is, in fact, one in Indy. They let me know that they have a location on Mass Ave. I sat there thinking through the spots I knew of on Mass Ave and could not think of where this place was. As soon as I got back to Indy, I definitely had to check it out.

Goodfellas Pizza is definitely on Mass Ave. As you walk in the doors, if you go to the left near the restrooms, you’ll notice a hidden bourbon bar, that’s not so hidden but still a cool vibe. They have their own version of a punch card type of program. Try 100 different whiskeys and you can get your name on the wall. It’s taking me forever and I’m still not even close, but I still love the concept.

The bartenders are always professional and make delicious and sometimes unique cocktails. They are very knowledgeable about the whiskeys they sell and I have always had great conversations with them any time I’ve gone. You can even order some pizza, and some of their monster breadsticks, and they will bring it back to you while you sit at the bar. My wife and I have gone there several times during date nights. I have also just popped in for a slice and a pour while waiting for a sporting event downtown. No matter the occasion, I ALWAYS recommend this “not so hidden” gem on Mass Ave!
